Your Stories Matter

What is it?

At It’s Not A Compliment, we believe and have always believed, that sharing stories and experiences of street harassment is crucial to raising awareness and driving meaningful change.

Our newest two-year project Your Stories Matter, funded by the City of Melbourne, aims to take this vision further by empowering individuals to share their street harassment stories through a digital magazine, an interactive map and research survey, as well as some fun events.

The interactive map will allow people to pin locations of where they have felt safe or unsafe, or where they have experienced harassment. The data gathered from the stories, experiences, and anonymous responses to our interactive map will be the basis of a research report in 2023, and will inform the City of Melbourne’s strategic planning, creating safer streets for all.

Keep an eye out for future announcements on when the map will launch. We also have some exciting events in the pipeline, such as craftivism workshops and a mural unveiling!

Your Stories Matter is central to expanding our understanding of what activism looks like, and how we can use creative forms to spread awareness about street harassment.

How can you get involved?

Your Stories Matter has a key message: there is no invalid way of sharing your story, and every time someone recognises the power of their voice, we are all one step closer to addressing street harassment in our communities and beyond.

Why? Because your voice, your experiences, and your stories matter.

Join us by using the map to share your experiences of street harassment as we build our community of street justice advocates and achieve street justice for all. A special thank you to the City of Melbourne for sharing our vision of a world free from street harassment.

We also can’t wait to see you at our upcoming Your Stories Matters events, such as our craftivism workshops! Keep an eye out as we reveal more information and share how you can attend these events.
